Brewers’ Prospect Selected to Participate in All-Star Futures Game

Congratulations go out to Scooter Gennett as he has been selected to participate in the Futures Game as a part of the All-Star Game week festivities in Kansas City next month.

The 14th Annual Futures Game will be contested on Sunday, July 8 in Kaufmann Stadium, home of the Royals and site of the 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game: Which Counts This Time Like It Has Counted Since 2003! (Some of that full name might not be official….)

Played in a USA vs. World format where prospects are teamed up based on where they were born, the game has been a popular showcase for rising talent as well as allowing some prospects the opportunity to play in a MLB stadium. Team USA holds a 7-6 advantage in the series.

Gennett, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, will be on Team USA and will be the only representative from the Milwaukee Brewers’ farm system for 2012. Every organization must be represented by at least one player but no organization can be represented by more than two players each year, according to an article I read, but I also noticed that Kansas City is sending three players to the game. Host team exemption?

As a second baseman for the Huntsville Stars (the Double-A affiliate of the Brewers), Gennett has tallied a Southern League-high 83 hits in 277 At-Bats over 70 games so far this year. 24 of those hits have gone for extra bases (19 doubles, two triples, and three home runs). Gennett has scored 35 times, driven in 23 runs, stolen seven bases in nine attempts and has posted an OPS of .761 (all numbers as of 6/20/12).

This year Gennett has been named Southern League Player of the Week once and was a Southern League All-Star as well.

Congratulations to Scooter Gennett!
