Brewers Announce Minor League Coaching Staffs

The Milwaukee Brewers have announced their entire Minor League coaching staffs for 2014 (note – the staffs at Triple-A Nashville and Class-A Wisconsin were announced earlier).

Rick Sweet begins his first season in the Brewers organization as manager at Nashville.  In 24 seasons as a manager in the Minor Leagues, Sweet has compiled a 1,588-1,520 career record (.511).  Coach Bob Skube, pitching coach Fred Dabney, athletic trainer Aaron Hoback, and strength and conditioning specialist Andrew Emmick all return to Nashville.

The Double-A Huntsville Stars will also be led by a new manager in 2014 with Carlos Subero at the helm.  Subero owns a 794-851 record (.483) over 13 seasons as a manager in the minors.  He spent the past five seasons as a manager in the Dodgers organization, including last season as manager at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga as he led the Quakes to the California League playoffs.  Subero managed at Class-A Inland Empire in 2009 and Double-A Chattanooga from 2010-12.

Prior to joining the Dodgers organization, Subero served as manager at Double-A Birmingham in the White Sox organization in 2008.  He also spent nine seasons in the Texas Rangers organization, including two seasons as hitting coach with the Gulf Coast League Rangers (1999-2000) and seven seasons as manager with the GCL Rangers (2001-02), Class-A Clinton (2003-05) and Class-A Bakersfield (2006-07).

Pitching coach Chris Hook returns for his third consecutive season with the Stars.  Sandy Guerrero also returns to Huntsville as a coach following the past two seasons as hitting coordinator.  Guerrero previously coached at Huntsville from 2003-08.  Athletic trainer Steve Patera enters his second season at Huntsville and Nate Dine joins the organization as strength and conditioning specialist.

Joe Ayrault begins his third season as manager at Class-A Brevard County.  New to the Manatees’ staff is pitching coach Dave Chavarria, who spent the previous two seasons in the same role at Class-A Wisconsin, and coach Reggie Williams, who served as roving outfield and baserunning coordinator the past four seasons.  Coach Ned Yost IV (third season), athletic trainer Tommy Craig (eighth season) and strength and conditioning specialist Jonah Mergen (fourth season) all return in 2014.

Matt Erickson, an Appleton, Wis. native, is back for his fourth season as manager of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.  He will be joined by new pitching coach Elvin Nina and new coaches Chuckie Caufield and Kenny Dominguez.  Nina and Caufield coached at Helena in 2013 and Dominguez coached at Huntsville last season.  Jeff Paxson returns for his fifth season as athletic trainer at Wisconsin and his 21st season in the organization.  Mike Hoffman is in his first season as strength and conditioning specialist.

Tony Diggs, the 2013 Pioneer League Manager of the Year, returns as manager at Helena.  Last season, Helena finished a win away from winning the Pioneer League title.  The team’s new pitching coach is Rolando Valles, a former Minor League pitcher who spent six seasons as Latin liaison.  Former Major League outfielder Jason Dubois joins the staff as a coach following a season in the same position with the Rookie Arizona Brewers.  Luke Greene enters his first season as athletic trainer and Tim Gifford joins Helena’s staff as strength and conditioning coordinator, marking his fourth season in the Brewers organization.

Nestor Corredor returns for his second season as manager of the Rookie Arizona Brewers.  Steve Cline returns for his 34th season as a pitching coach in the minors, including his 19th season as a member of the Brewers farm system.  Al LeBoeuf joins the staff as a coach and Greg Barajas returns as athletic trainer.

The entire staff of the rookie Dominican Summer League Brewers returns in 2014, led by manager Jose Pena.  He is joined by pitching coach Jose Nunez, assistant pitching coach Geraldo Obispo and coaches Luis De Los Santos, Victor Estevez and Joan Abreu.  Athletic trainer Adrian Ramon and strength and conditioning coordinator Russell McCarthy also return.

In addition, former outfielder Jeremy Reed has been named hitting coordinator.  He spent parts of eight seasons in the majors with Seattle (2004-08), New York-NL (2009), Toronto (2010) and Milwaukee (2011).  Mark Dewey will serve as assistant pitching coordinator in 2014.  He spent the past two seasons as pitching coach at Brevard County.
