Will We See See Sabathia in Brewer Blue?

By: Big Rygg

First and foremost, Happy Independence Day to all of our domestic readers and those U.S. citizens that read us from the other side of our borders!

Now let's get down to business...

sabathia.jpgThere has been a TON of acceleration regarding C.C. Sabathia's possible trade out of Cleveland. The destination that's being penciled onto his plane ticket has been reading: MKE (the airport code for Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport if you didn't know).

Heading back the other direction? Well therein lies some of the discrepancy in stories.

FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal is reporting that both (yes, both) OF Matt LaPorta and SS Alcides Escobar were offered to the Indians for Sabathia. Beat-writer for the local Milwaukee paper the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Tom Haudricourt, reports that he has it on "good authority" that the Brewers would never offer both of those players in the same deal for Sabathia. He has found out that the Indians had scouts watching the Brewers' Single A team (the Brevard County Manatees) the other day where 2007 Brewers Minor League Player of the Year Taylor Green plays ball and believes that Green might be a centerpiece in a deal.

There is also some talk about J.J. Hardy possibly being involved in a deal for Sabathia and then that Escobar would be used to replace Hardy on the big-league roster. (I'm officially on the record as not in favor of this scenario if we could get Sabathia with just prospects instead.)

The non-waiver trading deadline in Major League Baseball is July 31st and you usually will see many of the trades that are going to happen in this league happen on or just prior to that date. Part of the reports around the internet are saying that the reason the Brewers might be offering such a strong deal this early is so that the Indians will be convinced that they can't get anything better and will pull the trigger on the deal. After all, you only throw a starting pitcher every 5th day so the earlier you get that pitcher into your rotation, the more benefit you get for the deal.

But then again...maybe everybody is way off base here and no deal will happen.

Here's where you guys get involved...

  • Would you do a deal for C.C. Sabathia if structured as is indicated by the rumors?
  • Which deal?
  • If you'd deal for Sabathia but not want to do one of the supposed deals, what would you offer?
  • If you won't deal for Sabathia, who else do you think the Brewers should target?

He's not lighting up the league anyways. The Indians spent half their life's savings on him and that's why they're trying so hard to deal him. Don't start trying to pick up a bunch of has-been pitchers like Gagne. BUT.....get rid of Hardy??? Who was drinking when they came up with THAT plan??? 1. NO trading for Sabathia. 2. NO trading off Hardy. 3. Dangle the pitchers contracts over an open fire and see if they can't suddenly do better.

Oh, by the way, Big Rygg, Happy 4th to you too.

not lighting up the league ??????? Since his third start his E.R.A. is 2.16 ........... his so/w ratio is like 115/ 20 . He's a great pitcher but , and yes there's a but ......... why would you give up Laporta and whomever for a rental ???? Its been said already if it goes through , he walks in October just like Sheets will . Furthermore , can he make the jump and adjust to the national league ? See Barry Zito . He's overweight , out of shape and I just see him wearing down or getting hurt if they pull this off . If they are gonna do it , trade Fielder , Brew Crew offered him 60 million and his agent said it wasnt enough . Boo hoo fat boy , you're not eligible for two more years ( arbitration ) . Braun signed for less money so the Crew could sign the others only to have fatboy slap them in the face , real nice . I'm sure the government wasnt happy about that either considering he owes them alot of money . I say offer him ( with his crappy attitude ) to the tribe with Bill Hall who's an over priced flop . WHEN are fans going to realize that Doug Melvin is a big part of the problem here , he's offering ridiculous trade offers , keeps blowing Atanasio's millions on re-treads or rejects and quite frankly isnt getting it done as far as I'm concerned . Yes they drafted well , but how could you not with all they're scouts scanning the globe ? I heard on the radio the brewers also offered the Giants ... Gwynn jr., hall and Gamel for Tim Lincecum . Now thats a trade I'd welcome , Lincecum is signed for three years and very cheap , I'd also trade a minor leaguer for say , Greg Maddux , who knows how to win in crunch time and has playoff experience . I guess it comes down to .... win now , but at what cost ? Ijust hope its not the future of this franchise . Nuff for now .

Id also try to trade for Brian Roberts from Baltimore ( 2nd baseman who yes tore up Milwaukee a week ago) and get rid of Weeks . Im sorry but its pretty amazing that a pro team keeps a guy leading off that hits .200 , whiffs like Richie Sexson and cant or doesnt know what a bunt is . I'd rather have Kendall lead off . Too many things going against Da Brew Crew for anything big to happen here as I see it . Too many holes in pitching and hitting to compete with the big boys . Dont get me wrong , I'm all for winning and I love the Brewers but I dont see it until some changes are made . I cheer for my teams here , but I'm also a realist .

C.C. IS NOW A mILWAUKEE bREWER ................
