Official Release: Brewers Set Details For Exhibition Games, Opening Day
After playing over 30 Spring Training games in Phoenix for Spring Training, the Milwaukee Brewers return home to Miller Park to close the exhibition season with two games against the Chicago White Sox. The Brewers and their former American League Central rivals will play Friday at 7:10 p.m. and on Saturday at 1:10 p.m.
Tickets for both games are available and are priced at $10 (Field Diamond Box was $15 but are sold out). General parking is $9 if purchased in advance and $10 on the day of the game. Preferred parking is $14 in advance and $18 on the day of the game. Tickets are available by visiting the Miller Park Box Office, online at Brewers.com or by calling the Brewers ticket office at 414-902-4000 or 1-800-933-7890.
The Brewers would also like to make fans aware of several logistical notes before the games this weekend.
- I-94 Lane Closures – The Brewers want to ensure the fan experience at Miller Park is enjoyable and that begins with traveling to and from the game. Throughout the early season games, periodic lane closures will be in effect on I-94. Fans are encouraged to stay up to date on traffic information by visiting the Wisconsin Department of Transportation website at http://www.511wi.gov for up to the minute lane closures, alternate routes and other traffic information.
- Gate Times – Gate times at Miller Park have been adjusted for the 2013 season. Gates will open 90 minutes prior to first pitch for all games this season except Opening Day and all Saturday games in June July and August. For those games, gates will open two hours prior to first pitch.
- Parking Lots – The Miller Park parking lots will open three hours prior to all games this season.
- Weather – With the unusually cold outdoor temperatures this month, fans may care to bring a light jacket to the exhibition games, especially the evening game on Friday. Temperatures in Miller Park will be approximately 30 degrees warmer than outside, meaning it may feel slightly cooler than normal inside the seating bowl.
- Design a YOUniform – In January at Brewers On Deck, the Brewers announced Ben Peters as the winner of the “Design a YOUniform” contest. Nearly 700 fans entered their alternate uniform designs in the contest, and Peters’ winning uniform will be worn by the team for the game on Saturday. Merchandise featuring the winning design is on sale at the Brewers Team Store by Majestic.
Milwaukee Brewers Announce 2013 Spring Training Schedule
The Milwaukee Brewers today announced the Club’s 2013 Spring Training schedule which opens on Saturday, February 23 at Maryvale Baseball Park against Oakland. The Brewers will play a total of 35 Spring Training and exhibition games in 2013, including 17 at Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix and two games at Miller Park.
The Brewers will play games at Maryvale against NL Central rivals Cincinnati on Saturday, March 16 and against the Chicago Cubs on Friday, March 22. Other home highlights include a St. Patrick’s Day game (Sunday, March 17) against Los Angeles in Glendale and a matchup versus Team Canada’s World Baseball Classic entry on Tuesday, March 5.
The team has two split squad games scheduled during the spring. The slate includes Monday, February 25 vs. San Diego (SS) and at Cincinnati, and Sunday, March 24 vs. Colorado and at San Diego.
The final home game at Maryvale Baseball Park for the Brewers is set for Wednesday, March 27 against Kansas City. The Brewers will return home to Miller Park to play two games against the White Sox to round out the exhibition season, scheduled for Friday, March 29 at 7:10 p.m. and Saturday, March 30 at 1:10 p.m.
All Brewers games played in the Cactus League are scheduled for 1:05 pm starts (Arizona Time), except for Wednesday, March 13 at the Diamondbacks (7:10 p.m. local/9:10 p.m. CT start).
Pitchers and catchers with zero to three years of Major League service time are scheduled to report to Spring Training on Tuesday, February 12. All position players and pitchers and catchers with three-plus years of Major League service have a report date of Friday, February 15, 2013.
Tickets for the Milwaukee Brewers home Spring Training games will go on sale at 10 am CT on Monday, December 3 via the internet at Brewers.com and by phone at 1-800-933-7890. Normal business hours are from 9am – 5pm CST. Sales at the Maryvale Baseball Park Box Office will begin on Monday, February 4, 2013. Tickets are available in four seating areas: Field Box ($22), Infield Reserved ($16), Outfield Reserved ($13) and Lawn Seating ($8). 2013 Milwaukee Brewers Schedule, Highlights
While there’s still work to be done in 2012, Major League Baseball released it’s preliminary 2013 schedule today.
The Milwaukee Brewers open at home with a three-game set against the Colorado Rockies beginning on Monday, April 1st.
They’re home for six games over seven days before hitting the road where they’ll help the Chicago Cubs open their home season at Wrigley Field on Monday, April 8th.
The biggest changes for 2013 are of course the nearly daily occurance of at least one interleague game on the schedule, a move necessitated by the shifting to the American League from the National League of the Houston Astros.
The Brewers’ first interleague series is a short two-game set against the Texas Rangers on May 7-8 at Miller Park. The Brewers do play the Astros in Interleague play as well, heading to Houston for a three-game series June 18-20.
Their old “natural” rival Minnesota Twins are faced in what’s basically a “home-and-home” pair of two game series between May 27-30. The first two are played at Miller Park with the final two at Target Field in Minneapolis.
In all there are seven Interleague series for the Brewers in 2013. They host the Oakland Athletics from June 3-5. They’ll be in Seattle from August 10-12 before heading to Texas for a pair of games August 13-14. Their last interleague series of the year will be run from August 30-September 1 when Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels come to town.
Milwaukee closes the 2013 season with a seven-game road trip to Atlanta to face the Braves for three games and Flushing where they’ll close the regular season with a four-game set against the Mets.

Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad: Brewers Secure Series, Hoffman Tallies Two

Knowing that Trevor Hoffman is the all-time career saves leader in Major League Baseball history, how do you deal with that stare slicing through you in the ninth inning when your team is down?
Gives you chills, doesn’t it?
I start this article with the end of the game today (as I start writing at least). Well, to be fair, I’ll start just after the game ended.
It was then that a member of the Milwaukee Brewers staff peeled off of a “2″ to reveal a “3″. The two places preceding the ones column? A “5″ and “9″. It is the in-stadium visual counter of Hoffman’s career saves total as he marches toward 600.
Nestled on the scoreboard’s support out past the left-center gap, it tells everyone that enters the stadium just who will be coming out of the bullpen door after the stadium boards go dark…as if the Bells weren’t enough notification.
Tuesday night saw the precursor to Wednesday afternoon’s revealing. After all, to get to 593, you first have to get to 592.
Hoffman pitched a perfect inning on Wednesday to get the save. He had to as the Brewers only took a one-run lead into the ninth. Tuesday was not quite the same as Hoffman was touched up for a run before locking down the Colorado Rockies.
Hoffman didn’t give up a run until his nineteenth appearance in 2009. That followed nearly a month on the disabled list with Hoffman finally recording his first save of that season on April 28 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Something tells me he doesn’t mind Tuesday’s one run so much since the results of his efforts were two wins.
But I suppose that you could ask him yourself if you’re within shouting distance of him. I just recommend being somewhere other than 60 feet and six inches away.
One in the Books: Opening Day Recap

The new season is officially underway for the Milwaukee Brewers and while they didn’t come out of the day with a “W”, they played some pretty good baseball in places.
The best performance of the day from someone in a Brewer uniform belonged to new centerfielder Carlos Gomez. He had four hits in five at-bats with a double, solo home run, stolen base and two runs scored. Gomez also played well in centerfield to cap off a memorable Milwaukee debut.
The same cannot be said for Jim Edmonds on this day. Striking out swinging in both the first and third innings, with runners on base both times, along with getting doubled off of second base…well, let’s just say it’s an Opening Day that the veteran outfielder won’t be too fond of telling stories about.
Overall, the Brewers played well enough to give themselves a chance at victory. Had they done better than two-for-12 with runners in scoring position and therefore not left 11 runners on base, the score could have looked much different.
That being said, I think they had a bit of bad luck today including in the bottom of the ninth inning. With two men on, one run in and only one out, Prince Fielder and Edmonds hit hard line drives back-to-back only to have the baseballs settle into infielders’ gloves.
It happens.
The bottom line for me in this one was that the key players on offense performed fairly, Chris Narveson (2.0 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 ER) pitched okay in relief of Yovani Gallardo (who pitched seven innings and struck out five in his own right) and everyone made it through the Opening Day jitters and nerves without any major meltdowns.
It’ll be a long year to be sure, but one that should be filled with great performances and like results.
Brewers fail to win to this one, falling 3-5 to Ubaldo Jimenez and the Colorado Rockies, but based on what I witnessed on the field in person today, I have plenty of confidence in the team to win more often than not.
I’ll be at the game tomorrow as well as Wednesday, so I’ll have first-hand accounts of those games as well. Even though the Brewers went 0-6 against the Rockies in 2009, I fully anticipate a victory right around 9:45pm or so.
Come on out to the ballpark and support the team as we fans try to eclipse three million fans for the third year in a row.
